Lando Norris was particularly harsh on himself following the British Grand Prix, feeling McLaren had once again thrown away a race victory.

The critical call for Norris centered around the switch back from intermediate to slick tyres and the compound of rubber he fitted.

Second-placed Lewis Hamilton fitted soft tyres with third-placed Max Verstappen opting for the hards, with the duo stopping on lap 39 as Norris continued for a further tour of Silverstone.

Norris did have a fresh set of medium tyres available, but did not fit them, opting for a set of used softs and was leap-frogged by Hamilton, who went onto win.

Norris was passed late on by Verstappen for second as the softs degraded, with McLaren boss Andrea Stella feeling the team needed to take responsibility for the call.

On the sister car of Oscar Piastri, McLaren did fit the new mediums it had saved for just this situation, with the Australian closing a 15-second gap to Norris to just five seconds by the flag with a flurry of fastest laps, although Carlos Sainz nicked the bonus point on the final lap.

The radio traffic between Norris and his engineer Will Joseph and Piastri and Tom Stallard is available to read below - and tells the story of two different approaches.

Full Norris and Piastri team radio transcript

Lando Norris (LN): We need to box, the soft is better now... any slick tyre.

Will Joseph (WJ): Okay, so we can choose a medium to cover people like Verstappen, or choose a soft to cover people like Hamilton.

LN: Hamilton. I think Hamilton, or do you think medium? I don't mind.

WJ: We're going soft. Box this lap please, box this lap.

Norris pits.

Tom Stallard (TS): Competitor cars do not have medium, currently we think medium is the best tyre, 15 laps to go.

Oscar Piastri (OP): Yes, yes, it is the best.

TS: Ok, Hamilton has pitted. Hamilton has pitted.

OP: I think box, I think box.

TS: Copy box, box.

OP: Copy

Piastri pits.
