Sergio Perez has pinpointed a lack of feeling in high-speed corners as the major factor behind his early exit in United States Grand Prix sprint qualifying.

After easily passing through SQ1, Perez did not find a great deal of time into the second segment, only improving by less than a tenth and was on the cut-line.

He would be knocked out by Yuki Tsunoda in the RB, as team-mate Max Verstappen used the upgraded RB20 machine to grab a first pole of any kind since Austria in June.

Perez will start alongside Pierre Gasly, but reported major struggles with his car through the high-speed sweeps of Sector 1.

"It is very frustrating, especially from Q1 to Q2, we didn't have any progression," he reflected.

"If anything we took a step back with the tyres so that made things trickier, but it is where we are in the end.

"Hopefully, we're able to learn quite a bit from the car, and then in qualifying, able to put it all together.

"I am struggling with the ride issues in the high-speed, but our long run pace looked promising [in practice], so we have some work to do over the rest of the weekend, with the main target being to be strong in the race.

"I'm just struggling too much early on in the lap through Sector 1, it is too much so there is some work to do."
