Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko has detailed the scenario that would see Max Verstappen split from the team.

The Dutchman rose to a seat with the Milton Keynes-based outfit after just a season and four races as an F1 driver, securing a win on debut for Red Bull as a teenager at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.

Verstappen has been the dominant force in F1 across the past two seasons since winning the first of three Drivers' titles in 2021, the subsequent two triumphs coming with the best two statistical campaigns in the sport's history.

Such has been the partnership between Verstappen and Red Bull that his existing contract will see him through to the end of the 2028 season, yet Marko has insisted there could be a way out.

A way out?

Speaking to Servus TV about Verstappen's deal, Marko said: "In every Formula 1 contract there are certain clauses.

"That also applies to Max's contract. I just don't think an astronomical amount of money is a theme for him. We have to provide him with a winning car.

"Of course, he is interested in success as a driver. Max is not getting any younger.

"If Max no longer sees a light on the horizon with Red Bull and performance criteria start to play a role, it is clear that he will also start looking around him."
