Lando Norris News

Lando Norris had a fantastic season in 2024, but ultimately fell just short of securing the world championship compared to his rival Max Verstappen.

Lando Norris career

Lando Norris was always destined for big things from a very young age. He began his karting career at the age of seven, and took pole position at his first event. Norris would go on to win the CIK-FIA Word Karting Championship in 2014, becoming the youngest person to take victory in the senior category. 
 

The young Englishman added five more titles in the next three years, competing in a variety of championships including the FIA Formula 3 Euroseries. Along the way, Norris would also win the prestigious BRDC Autosport Award and become a member of the McLaren Young Driver Programme. 
 

Norris F1 driver for McLaren

Norris finished second overall in the 2018 FIA Formula 2 season, in turn gaining promotion to Formula 1 with McLaren for the 2019 campaign, where he would partner Carlos Sainz. 
 

His first two seasons at McLaren were largely successful. Norris finished the 2019 championship in 11th, while 2020 would see him improve to ninth after picking up his first podium at the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix. He also helped McLaren to claim third in the Constructors’ Championship, their best finish since 2012. 
 

Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo

The youngster continued his progression in 2021, where he soon outperformed his new and more experienced teammate, Daniel Ricciardo. Norris took four podiums during the season, and narrowly missed out on a debut victory at the Russian Grand Prix, where taking a gamble to stay out on track rather than pit for Intermediate tyres during the rain-affected final laps cost him the win.

Contract with McLaren until the end of 2025

Having signed a contract extension with McLaren until the end of 2025, Norris again raced for the Woking-based squad in 2022 alongside Ricciardo. The team struggled to match their form from the previous year and slipped down to fifth in the Constructors' Championship after losing out to Alpine.

However, Norris became the only driver outside of the top three teams to claim a podium, having finished third at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. He also got the better of Ricciardo again, leading to the Australian leaving the squad at the end of the season.

The British team signed top talent Oscar Piastri from Alpine for the 2023 season. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been teammates since 2023, and this partnership will continue in 2025. The McLaren duo had a positive season, securing the Constructors' Championship. Norris also had a strong championship campaign but ultimately fell short against Max Verstappen.
