Lance Stroll's second free practice session at the Canadian Grand Prix lasted fewer than 10 minutes after the Aston Martin driver appeared to only glance the wall on the outside of Turn 7 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The 26-year-old returned to the cockpit of his AMR25 in FP1 of his home grand prix after withdrawing from the previous round, in Spain, with wrist issues after qualifying.
It was a return of an injury he sustained in a bike accident ahead of the 2023 F1 season. Having undergone a procedure to alleviate recent pain, the one-time F1 pole sitter was declared fit for the weekend in Montreal.
Having hit the wall in FP2 in Canada, Stroll radioed in to Aston Martin to tell the Silverstone squad he would try to bring the car back to the pits.
However, the damage sustained was too severe, having destroyed the front left corner of his car.
The team replied: "I think we have to stop, we shouldn't drive back. We have to stop. Just find a safe spot."
Stroll finished P15 in FP1 but had not yet completed a representative time in the second hour of running.
He therefore joins Charles Leclerc at the bottom timing board for the session, with the Ferrari driver unable to take part as the Italian team replaces the chassis on his SF-25.
