Famous father Nelson Piquet

The surname 'Piquet' is no stranger to Formula 1. Kelly is the daughter of three-time Formula One world champion Nelson Piquet. He became world champion twice in the 1980s with Brabham and once with Williams. Nelson Piquet has seven children from four relationships, having had daughter Kelly with Sylvia Tamsma, a Dutch model. Several of his children are also active in motorsport. Among others, his son Nelson Piquet Jr. raced in Formula 1 at Renault in 2008 and 2009, and Pedro Piquet was active in Formula 2.

Formula 1 is not unknown to Kelly, so it is not surprising that this is how she met Max Verstappen. In fact, Kelly knows him through her brother Nelson, who is friends with the Dutchman. During a fun night out for dinner in 2016 in Monaco, she already felt there was a certain connection between them. She just didn't do anything with it, also because of the age difference. In fact, Kelly Piquet is nine years older than Max. She was born in 1988 and he in 1997.

In 2020, the two did get back together and in 2021 made it world-wide known that they were dating. There were rumours in 2022 that the two lovebirds had broken up, but none of that turned out to be true. The daughter of the three-time world champion calls her relationship with Max easy going and they are currently very happy.

Sometimes Max also takes his girlfriend for a spin, such as in his Porsche at the Barcelona circuit. She had to recover from this.

A year after Kelly and Max first met, Kelly began dating Russian Formula 1 driver Danill Kvyat. He was then racing for Toro Rosso, which later became AlphaTauri, after being replaced by Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing mid-season. Max took his first win immediately after the switch at the Spanish Grand Prix with Red Bull.

Later, Kvyat also opened up about wanting to quit Formula 1 after his Red Bull resignation if he did not find a new deal.

Daughter Kelly Piquet

Together with Daniil Kvyat, Kelly Piquet had a daughter in July 2019, named Penelope Kvyat. A few months later, Piquet and Kvyat put an end to their relationship.

Kelly says that Max is very nice and sweet with her little daughter and she also makes no secret of the fact that she would love to extend her family in the future.

Lifecycle

Kelly has lived and studied in many parts of the world. In fact, she was born on 7 December 1988 in Germany, in the town of Homburg. She did not spend her childhood here, but she did it most of the time in southern France.

From the age of 12 to 15, Piquet returned to Brazil and later moved to England, studying at a boarding school. Kelly also studied in New York at Marymount Manhattan College, where she got into fashion. She has walked fashion shows as a model, as well as being a columnist for fashion magazine Marie Claire in 2014. In January/February 2023, Kelly Piquet was cover girl for Dutch Vogue.

Her LinkedIn now shows that she has been working as a 'health and wellness coach' in Monaco since 2018.

Independent woman

Kelly believes it is important to be and remain an independent woman. For example, she told RTL Boulevard, a Dutch entertainment show, that she would like to set up a charity project for children. In Tanzania, she taught English to small children as a volunteer and this inspired her to set up such a project. She thought it was a tough period, but at the same time that period was one of the happiest in her life.

By being an independent woman, she also wants to be a role model for her little daughter Penelope.

That Kelly Piquet is an independent woman is also reflected in her wealth. Compared to Max Verstappen's salary, it may be a pittance, but Kelly can take care of herself just fine. According to Essentially Sports, her wealth is around $700,000 to $1,000,000.

Kelly Piquet is also making progress as an influencer and also regularly promoting products. On Instagram, for example, she has 1.1 million followers (March 2023) and mainly posts photos of herself in fashionable outfits, but you can also see her daughter and, of course, Max Verstappen regularly.
