Daniil Kvyat displayed his prowess behind the wheel at a very young age. After winning several karting races and titles mainly in Italy, the Russian gained the notice of Red Bull who signed him to their driver program and helped him transition into racing cars.

After attaining mediocre results in the Formula BMW category, Kvyat would find success in Formula Renault 2.0 machinery winning the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS championship in 2012. This resulted in a promotion to the GP3 Series where Kvyat exceeded all expectations by winning the championship in his very first season.

After his stellar performances in GP3, the Russian gained entry into Formula 1 during the 2014 season with Toro Rosso. Despite an average season that saw him finish no higher than ninth, Sebastian Vettel’s departure to Ferrari opened the door for Kvyat to move to Red Bull in 2015.

Kvyat would make the most of his opportunity, outsourcing the highly-rated Daniel Ricciardo by three points in their first year as teammates. Despite his performances in 2015, a series of incidents at the start of the 2016 season resulted in a demotion to Toro Rosso with Max Verstappen taking his place at the senior team.

The demotion would take a toll on Kvyat’s confidence and his performances were anything but impressive. He would ultimately be dropped by Toro Rosso towards the end of the 2017 season, though he would return to the fold in 2019. An improved showing saw him finish on the podium in Germany, a first in over three years as he finished the season partnered by Pierre Gasly.

Ultimately he was once again outperformed by the Frenchman in 2020, resulting in him being replaced for the 2021 season by Japanese F2 sensation Yuki Tsunoda.
