GM committed only to Andretti F1 entry bid

Any suggestions that General Motors could partner with a separate F1 team have been rubbished by the brand's President as Andretti's entry bid continues.

General Motors has insisted it is committed to Andretti Global's F1 entry bid and dismissed suggestions it could partner with an existing team instead.

The American brand partnered with Michael Andretti's prospective entry to form Andretti Cadillac Racing after fears from F1's incumbent teams that Andretti Global failed to bring the value needed to join the grid.

ACR has since passed the first two phases of the FIA's entry process after the governing body launched an Expressions of Interest before the current campaign.

It was the only team to pass to the final stage, where it now faces commercial discussions with Formula One Management [FOM] to determine whether the entry will be accepted.

GM committed to Andretti

With opposition to the entry persistent from the current 10 teams, a number backed the addition of GM alone to the sport, with Williams Team Principal James Vowles recently explaining he would welcome the brand to his team.

Asked whether changing allegiance was a possibility, GM President Mark Reuss told AP: “GM is committed to partnering with Andretti to race in F1.

“The collaboration between Andretti-Cadillac brings together two unique entities built for racing, both with long pedigrees of success in motorsport globally.”
