Formula E 'more interesting' than F1 – Massa

Ex-F1 and Formula E driver Felipe Massa believes the all-electric series is now "more interesting" to watch than F1, as the competition is considerably closer.

Massa raced in Formula E for Venturi across two seasons, whilst he spent 15 years prior to that in F1. The Brazilian was present at the São Paulo E-Prix last weekend, the first FIA governed event he has attended since filing his lawsuit against them, Formula One Management and ex-F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone.

Prior to discussing the current performance of Formula E, Massa explained to RacingNews365 the reasoning behind the 'Crashgate' lawsuit, which Ecclestone has openly shared his support of.

The 93-year-old was also present at the fourth round of Formula E's tenth season, marking his first visit to the championship. Interestingly, Ecclestone was amazed by what he saw and conceded that the championship is "at Formula 1's level", having previously admitted that he thought the series would die after one race.

Formula E is going nowhere, with the sport continuing to grow. The championship now has the fourth-biggest fanbase in motorsport, whilst the series also consistently delivers more overtakes than any other single-seater category.

Last weekend's race in São Paulo featured 212 competitive overtakes. To put this into some context, the Bahrain Grand Prix consisted of 36 overtakes, whilst the most recent race in Jeddah featured only 25.

'Overtaking is awesome'

Massa remains a huge fan of Formula E, and having raced in both championships he admits that F1 is lacking competition compared to the younger series.

"I think it's really nice to race in the city tracks in Formula E," Massa told RacingNews365. "I think also the competition, the difference between the cars is really small in Formula E.

"You see that every race, you have different drivers fighting for the victory, you see that the championship finishes at the end, not before. So this is really nice, Formula E overtaking is awesome.

"Formula 1, you also have a very nice car to drive with much more aerodynamic downforce, compared to Formula E, for example.

"But I mean, I think the race in Formula E is more interesting to watch compared to Formula 1, especially when you have a car that is a lot in front, like Red Bull and others in the past as well."
