Former Formula 1 driver Eddie Irvine believes Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes' dominance era is "now over" and does not expect him to win an eighth title.
Hamilton won six Drivers' Championships with the Silver Arrows which, coupled with his 2008 title won with McLaren, put him on par with Micheal Schumacher.
The Briton has yet to win a race since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, while the team has just one victory in two years after spending 2023 winless.
Irvine believes it will be difficult for Mercedes to replicate its previous form given how well Max Verstappen is performing at the wheel of the Red Bull.
“The era of the triumphs of Hamilton and Mercedes is now over, but Lewis is still a very good driver, very focused on objectives and eager to obtain results,” Irvine told Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Also the comparison with Verstappen is very tough, because Max is younger, has a bit more speed and enormous belief in his abilities."

Mercedes was also a dominant force between 2014 and 2021, taking a record eight consecutive Constructors' Championships and 120 wins.
Since the change in regulations in 2022, it has struggled to replicate this form as it grapples with the problems posed by its car design concept.
Irvine expects Hamilton's drive to continue in F1 beyond his current contract length will depend on one main factor.
"Hamilton’s prospects will depend on how competitive Mercedes will be in 2024," he explained.
“With his experience, he has shown that he knows how to seize every opportunity that presents itself both in qualifying and in the race.
“However, I doubt he will be able to win the championship again, realizing his dream of winning his eighth title.”
