The FIA stewards rejected McLaren's right of review petition for failing to meet the required criteria to have the decision, that handed Lando Norris a decisive time penalty at the United States Grand Prix, re-opened.
In the closing stages of the race at the Circuit of the Americas, the McLaren driver attempted an overtake around the outside of Max Verstappen, but with both veering outside track limits, he was viewed to have completed the move off circuit.
The stewards quickly awarded him a five-second time penalty, which dropped him back behind the Red Bull - and off the podium - at the chequered flag.
This provoked McLaren into requesting the case be re-assessed, by way of the FIA right of review process, given the verdict was decided upon within a matter of laps and without team representation to argue its case - not to mention the drivers' and constructors' championship implications.
However, the Woking-based squad was not deemed to have met the threshold to have the penalty re-examined, something that has split opinion amongst the F1 community.
In a recent poll by RacingNews365, a plurality of respondents believed the FIA - and its stewards - had been correct in not forwarding the process o the next stage, as McLaren did not satisfy the requisite criteria.
However, that 40.84% vote share is only just clear of the 39.79% who believed the right of review should have been upheld.
Although, critically, that segment is split between those who feel the criteria is too strict and those who believe McLaren did surpass the high bar to have the petition accepted.
