Esteban Ocon F1 News

Esteban Ocon had a difficult 2024 season at Alpine. The team was not happy with the collisions between him and his teammate. Despite a season where Alpine's performance was lacking, things turned around at the end of the season. Ocon even finished second at the Brazilian Grand Prix, with his teammate in third. In 2025, Esteban Ocon will be driving for Haas, with Oliver Bearman as his teammate.

About Esteban Ocon

Born in Evreux, Normandy, Esteban Ocon began karting in 2006, and won several championships before stepping up to single-seaters in 2012. In his first season of taking part in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, the Frenchman finished 14th for Koiranen Motorsport before moving to the ART Junior Team the following year, where he secured a third-place finish.

From there, Ocon scored back-to-back titles, beating Max Verstappen to the FIA European Formula 3 Championship in 2014, and winning the GP3 crown in 2015. It was this kind of form that led to Mercedes signing the youngster to their Young Driver Programme.

F1 debut for Ocon

Having agreed to act as the reserve driver for Renault in 2016, Ocon would make his unexpected F1 debut when he was called up to replace Rio Haryanto at Manor Racing midway through the season. Although the car lacked competitiveness, the Frenchman impressed in his nine races and signed for Force India in 2017 as part of an engine deal with Mercedes.

In his two-year stint with the outfit, Ocon and teammate Sergio Perez often found themselves fighting to occupy the same piece of tarmac, leading to a number of collisions between the pair. Despite that, Ocon gave a good account of himself before being dropped in favour of Lance Stroll, whose father, Lawrence Stroll, took over the team in 2018.

Esteban Ocon 2019 and 2020

Forced to take a year out as Mercedes' reserve driver in 2019, Ocon was handed a career lifeline by Renault in 2020 when he was signed to replace Nico Hulkenberg. Although he struggled at times alongside Daniel Ricciardo, the Frenchman had a strong finish to the year, during which he stood on the podium for the first time at the Sakhir Grand Prix.

First win Ocon 2021

Following Ricciardo's exit from the team at the end of 2020, Ocon had a new teammate for 2021 in the form of two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso, who was making a comeback to F1 after a two-year hiatus. The high point of Ocon's season came at the chaotic Hungarian Grand Prix, where he claimed his debut Formula 1 victory in memorable style.

Ocon and Alpine were unable to secure any more podiums in 2022, while Ocon's relationship with Alonso came under the spotlight as the pair clashed on more than one occasion. The Frenchman's best result was a fourth place at the shortened Japanese Grand Prix, and Alpine managed to beat McLaren to P4 in the Constructors' Championship.

Esteban Ocon from Alpine to Haas

In 2023, Ocon raced again for Alpine, but this time with a new teammate. Alonso switched to Aston Martin, and the Frenchman was joined by his compatriot Pierre Gasly. The French duo drove together until the 2024 season, after which Esteban Ocon moved to Haas for the 2025 season.
