AlphaTauri give clear expectations for De Vries

Nyck de Vries already managed to score points on his Formula 1 debut at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix, but 2023 will be his first year as a full-time driver. AlphaTauri have outlined their expectations for the Dutchman.

AlphaTauri have outlined their expectations for new driver Nyck de Vries in 2023.

It was a tough season for the squad in 2022 as they struggled to understand their car balance and get on top of the porpoising issues that plagued them and many other teams.

This season, the AT04 will share few common components with its predecessor after the team elected to reset with a "completely new" car, which they say has produced promising numbers during development.

Even though de Vries is in his rookie F1 year, it is worth noting the Dutchman already has a world title to his name having won Formula E in the 2020/21 season.

AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost expects de Vries' experience to count, as they look to break further into the midfield in 2023.

"Nyck should just be concentrated to do the best possible job in our car," Tost told media, including RacingNews365.com.

"I hope that we can provide him with a car, which he deserves, namely, to be all the time in qualifying three and to score as many points as possible."

Tost: De Vries a 'big win' for AlphaTauri

Tost added that De Vries' prior experience makes him a "big win" for the team, given the crossover of technologies from Formula E and sports cars.

He added: "He is a driver who is bringing a lot of experience with him, experience not only from the driving but as well from the technical side.

"If you have young drivers in the car, especially nowadays with these quite complicated F1 cars.

"It's important to have someone with more experience, someone who won in the different categories, races and championships. Therefore he is for sure, a big win for the team."
