Toto Wolff has claimed that bitter F1 rival Christian Horner is "always stirring shit up" following a remark made about potentially signing George Russell.

During the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, Horner revealed that Red Bull would be "foolish" not to consider signing Russell

The Mercedes driver is out of contract at the end of next year, leading to speculation Max Verstappen could replace him should the Dutchman become available.

Even if Verstappen opts to remain at Red Bull and honour his contract until the end of 2028, Red Bull may yet require a new driver for 2026.

Sergio Perez only has a contract for next season, with an option to extend for '26 when the new power unit regulations kick in, so there are no guarantees for the Mexican.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, Horner said: "We've got a gap now but we just want to take time to consider what those options look like for the future.

"And we're not afraid to go out of the pool. You know, George Russell is out of contract at the end of next year. It would be foolish not to take that into consideration.

"There are other talented drivers that could be out of contract as well."

Following Sunday's race, in which Russell finished fourth and team-mate Lewis Hamilton was sixth, Mercedes boss Wolff addressed Horner's comments.

Wolff is hopeful that Russell will remain with the Brackley-based team indefinitely and believes Horner is simply attempting to stoke the fire, as has often been the way between the duo.

"He is always stirring shit up on his part," Wolff told select media including RacingNews365. "It's part of the game.

"George is a Mercedes driver, has been forever and hopefully will be forever. He has a long contract with the team."
