Max Verstappen has detailed what he believes to be the “only positive” from a challenging Monaco Grand Prix weekend.

After struggling with his car during Friday practice, Verstappen only managed the sixth-fastest lap time during the final session of qualifying.

Taking the start from row three on the grid, Verstappen, like the rest of the field, struggled to make an overtake stick around the narrow circuit.

Verstappen asserted after the grand prix that it was “not really racing” and called for changes to be made.

The three-time world champion asserted the processional race was of no surprise to him and felt the inability to overtake has worsened in recent years.

“We all know this, that Monaco is like this,” Verstappen told media including RacingNews365.

“I have to say that probably over the last few years compared to the years before, it's even more difficult because of the width of the cars.

“It’s nothing new. We always know that this happens in Monaco. Overall, of course, it has been a really, really bad weekend for us.”

'We know what our weakness is'

With Verstappen crossing the line in sixth and team-mate Sergio Perez failing to score after being involved in a major lap one incident, it marked the fewest points Red Bull has bagged during a race weekend this year.

Despite the challenging event, Verstappen highlighted it granted Red Bull an opportunity to discover its main weaknesses to work on going forward.

“I guess the only positive out of it is that we really know what our weakness is,” the Dutchman said.

“If we can improve that only by a little bit, we will gain a lot of lap time.

“There's a lot of room for improvement. If we can sort that out, then our car really comes alive again.”
