Verstappen questions 'solution' to F1 track limits

Track limits were a hot topic of conversation at the US Grand Prix last weekend with several drivers handed time penalties.

Max Verstappen is unsure if implementing a gravel trap at Turn 12 at the Circuit of the Americas is a viable solution to fix track limits.

A handful of drivers were issued time penalties during the United States Grand Prix last weekend for a continued breach of the white lines.

This included a penalty for Lando Norris following an overtake on Verstappen as they battled for third place.

It has been suggested that fitting a deterrent on the edge of the track, such as gravel, would stop drivers from running wide due to the time loss it would incur.

A similar solution was complemented at the Red Bull Ring in Austria this year - however Verstappen is unconvinced the system would be practical for COTA.

“I mean, it might help, but we have to deal with bikes as well that race here,” Verstappen told media including RacingNews365

“They don't like the gravel, so then you have to remove it again. Track days, people spinning off, of course, on track days.

“You have amateur drivers, professional drivers. It does cost a lot of money when you have to do that, and not every track can do that throughout the year.

“Yes, it would work, but on the other hand, I'm not sure how sustainable that is for the season.”

Verstappen ended the grand prix in third place, extending his drivers' championship lead over Norris by three points.
