Verstappen offers F1 help to solve Monaco criticism

Max Verstappen has stated he is open to assisting Formula 1 with discovering solutions to improve the Monaco Grand Prix spectacle.

Last weekend's race was labelled boring by many fans with drivers struggling to overtake around the narrow venue.

Although Monaco has historically posed an overtaking challenge, the 2024 edition saw the top 10 remain unchanged from qualifying to the end of the race for the first time in F1 history.

Verstappen crossed the line in sixth place while local favourite Charles Leclerc won the grand prix.

When asked by RacingNews365 if he would be happy to be involved in talks to improve the event, Verstappen replied: “Of course - if they ask for my opinion, I will try to see what is possible.

“But it also depends on what kind of roads you are going to take.”

Verstappen described the grand prix as “not really racing” with several drivers calling for changes to the event.

The three-time world champion's run to sixth was his lowest result at the Monaco GP since the 2018 edition, when he rose from the back to the grid to ninth.

One suggestion that has appeared is the introduction of a set number of mandatory pit stops, but Verstappen outlined there is no simple answer to fix the concern.

“We have to look into maybe some other things first, just like mandatory tyres or whatever,” he said.

“I mean, it's not the first time. Monaco has always been a bit like this.

“Probably now more people have an opinion about it. But it's not an easy solution, I think.”
