Tsunoda seeking answers from RB over Ricciardo team order

Yuki Tsunoda says he will try to understand RB's team orders in the Bahrain Grand Prix after an outburst against team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.

Late on in Sakhir, Tsunoda was challenging Kevin Magnussen for 12th place with Ricciardo behind, before the team ordered the Japanese driver to let the Australian through to attack instead.

Tsunoda was initially reluctant, but eventually moved on the exit of Turn 4 to allow his team-mate through, but immediately got back on the radio to complain that "he is not fast" as Magnussen held onto 12th ahead of Ricciardo and then Tsunoda.

Bad strategy had cost Tsunoda, who had been the better of the two RB drivers through the weekend, but on the cool-down lap, he divebombed Ricciardo at Turn 8 and nearly crashed into him on the on the run to Turn 9.

Ricciardo, surprised, labelled him a "fu**ing helmet", but calmer heads prevailed when the two attended media duties, with Ricciardo keen for the fourth-year driver to "calm down" as Tsunoda gave his side of the story.

"I was outside of the points, and just about to overtake Magnussen and was side-by-side on the main straight," Tsunoda told media including RacingNews365.

"I understand what the team thought, but I have to understand what they were thinking.

"He also did not overtake Magnussen, and it is kind of the rules [that the positions would be swapped back].

"I was driving quite well, in the points and suddenly I dropped backwards in the stops, so definitely a painful race, but we will learn from it.

"I think it was more strategy rather than the pit-stops as the car was doing a good job, and probably one reason the strategy is not working, that I could improve on myself is that I can [give more] updates on the tyre situation, so the [team] can adjust [the strategy] more precisely."
