Sergio Perez News

Sergio Perez entered his third season with Red Bull Racing in 2023, alongside two-time world champion Max Verstappen. The Mexican had a strong start to the season, winning the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia. It seemed to set the stage for an exciting title battle between Perez and Verstappen. However, Verstappen quickly emerged as the dominant driver, winning every subsequent race except for Singapore. Perez's results disappointed, and he retired in his home race, leading to significant criticism and pressure on his position.

Sergio Perez F1

The Mexican made his Formula 1 debut with Sauber in 2011, but a tough rookie campaign would see him end the year in 16th. Perez burst onto the scene in the following year, though, as he finished on the podium three times while narrowly missing out on a win at the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix, where he finished second to Fernando Alonso. These performances earned him a seat at McLaren for 2013, though he was unable to capitalise on the opportunity and ended the campaign lower than he had at Sauber the previous year. 
 

Perez then spent seven years with Force India and the rebranded Racing Point after the team were put into administration and purchased by a consortium of investors led by Lawrence Stroll. Over that time, he secured five podiums, including third at the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix. 
 

However, the 2020 campaign brought about some change after Ferrari announced the signing of Carlos Sainz for 2021. As a result, Sebastian Vettel became available, and the allure of signing a former four-time World Champion proved too good for Stroll to turn down, leaving Perez the odd man out.

First win and contract with Red Bull

With no contract for 2021, Perez put in a series of high-level performances, culminating in a second place finish at the Turkish Grand Prix and a win at the Sakhir Grand Prix. The Mexican also finished fourth in the Drivers' Championship, a career-best so far. Perez's performances were enough to convince Red Bull, who opted to sign him as Alexander Albon's replacement for 2021.

More wins for Perez

Perez was not able to match the level of new teammate Max Verstappen in his debut season with the team, but played a strong supporting role, as well as taking a victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He remained with the outfit in 2022 and added two more wins to his name in Monaco and Singapore.

While Verstappen proved dominant in the title fight, Perez finished the year in a career-best third place, and will be hoping to progress further in 2023 as he enters into his third season with Red Bull.
 

In 2023, the Mexican also faced a challenging season, spending a long time under pressure for his position at Red Bull. Sergio Perez leaves Red Bull

On Wednesday, December 18th, 2024, Sergio Pérez announced his departure from Red Bull. The Mexican driver has spent four years with the Austrian team and has won five Grand Prix races during that time. Pérez will be replaced by Liam Lawson, who will be racing for Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen in 2025.
