Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel is among the most accomplished drivers to have competed in Formula 1, bursting onto the grid as the then-youngest driver to have driven an F1 car in 2007.

Before breaking records in the sport - including being the fastest to get a fine in his career when he sped in the pitlane nine seconds after setting off - the German driver was a karting prodigy, who first started racing at three before making his competitive debut when he was eight years old.

Vettel joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 1998, where he quickly climbed the ranks before making his open-wheel racing debut in 2003. The next year, he won the Formula BMW ADAC Championship with 18 wins from 20 races, catching the attention of ASL Mucke Motorsport, who signed him up for the 2005 Formula 3 Euro Series season.

The German’s swift ascent through the ranks to the pinnacle of open-wheel racing was confirmed when BMW Sauber selected him to be the team's official test driver for the 2006 F1 season.

Following Robert Kubica's accident at the Canadian Grand Prix in 2007, Vettel finally made his race debut at 19 with the team at the United States Grand Prix in Austin. He would complete the season for Toro Rosso, with fourth being his best result. A full year at Toro Rosso beckoned in 2008 and, after some promising performances that included two fifth-place finishes at Monaco and Belgium, Vettel stunned the paddock at Monza by claiming pole and the race win, a first for the Italian outfit.

At the beginning of the 2009 campaign, it was announced that Vettel would partner Mark Webber at Red Bull, marking the launch of a golden period for the team and driver. The German dominated the grid from 2010 onwards, taking both the Drivers' and Constructors' trophies for the next four seasons.

In 2015, Vettel completed a lifelong dream and followed in the footsteps of his racing hero and countryman Michael Schumacher by joining Ferrari. He took his first win for the Italian team at the second race of the season in Malaysia.

Despite continued promise, Vettel’s time with the Scuderia failed to replicate the success he had found with Red Bull before the introduction of turbo hybrid engine rules in 2014. The partnership ended before the 2020 season had even begun, as Ferrari announced they would not renew his contract for 2021.

As a result, Vettel signed to the newly-renamed Aston Martin F1 team alongside Lance Stroll in 2021. There were mixed fortunes for the outfit during the campaign, but a high point was Vettel securing a podium finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Vettel will again race for Aston Martin in 2022, with Stroll continuing as his teammate.
