Schumacher asserts he is 'good enough' for F1 return

Mick Schumacher was forced to watch the 2023 Formula 1 campaign from the sidelines after losing his seat at Haas, but the German hasn't given up on a return to the grid going forward.

Mick Schumacher has asserted that he deserves a spot on the Formula 1 grid and has not ruled out a return to a race seat in the future.

Schumacher spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with Haas before being dropped in favour of Nico Hulkenberg.

The German found refuge at Mercedes and took on a test and reserve driver role, assisting the team as it endured a second challenging season competing off the front-running pace.

Schumacher will return to a full-time race seat this year having signed with Alpine to race its Hypercar programme in the World Endurance Championship.

Despite committing to a new racing series, Schumacher told Bild that he is “very open to everything” going forward and hasn't ruled out a return to F1.

When asked if he feels he deserves a second chance, Schumacher said: "Yes. Because I know I have the skills for it. I'm good enough.

"I showed that in Formula 4, Formula 3 and Formula 2. The fact that I won races and championships is quickly forgotten.

“I proved that in addition to driving, I can also handle pressure. And Formula 1 is not that different.”

Regarding his competition for a race seat, Schumacher added that there is “currently no talent emerging from the junior series” but clarified that "I don't get anything for free - I'm the one who has to deliver."
