Sainz names tracks he expects Ferrari to fight Red Bull

Ferrari has already taken a grand prix victory this year after claiming a 1-2 finish at the Australian Grand Prix - but where else might the Italian squad be competitive this year?

Carlos Sainz has provided a shortlist of tracks he believes could see Ferrari challenge Red Bull for the race victory.

Ferrari secured a race win at the Australian Grand Prix last month with Sainz taking to the top step of the podium ahead of team-mate Charles Leclerc.

However, its rival Red Bull has eased to victory at the other three events to continue its strong form that saw it win all but one race last year.

The Milton Keynes-based squad is the heavy favourite for the championship battle this year, with Max Verstappen enjoying a success-filed start to the new campaign.

But Sainz is confident that Ferrari can push Red Bull at a handful of races this year.

“I think we will still fight for wins in other tracks,” Sainz told media including RacingNews365.

“We will maybe go to the Monzas or the Singapores, and Miami maybe, we’re still in the mix.”

Call to improve

Sainz's victory in Australia came amid a terminal brake issue for Max Verstappen - however Ferrari was confident over its chances in Melbourne due to the strengths of the SF-24 challenger.

Last time out at the Suzuka Circuit, the Italian squad was unable to keep up with Red Bull throughout the weekend, leaving Sainz to issue a rally call to his team.

“There are other tracks where the Red Bull just simply has a much better package,” he admitted.

“Until we develop this car at these kind of tracks, they will be three-tenths to half a second ahead.

“So it’s time to put our heads down and try to bring a good package to help at these sorts of tracks.”
