Sainz has taken ‘patient pill’ in wait over F1 drive decision

Carlos Sainz is still yet to put pen to paper over an F1 drive for the 2025 season.

Carlos Sainz has thanked F1 teams for being patient with him as he waits to make a decision regarding his future.

However, the Spaniard has insisted he too has had to sit idly by as he waits for the driver market to present its best opportunity.

The three-time race winner is widely regarded as the strongest driver without a 2025 seat following Ferrari’s decision to replace him in favour of Lewis Hamilton.

Sainz has been linked to various F1 projects over the last handful of months, including Audi and Williams - but has declared he is remaining “patient” in order to ensure he makes the right decision.

“The teams have been very patient and I thank them for that,” he told media including RacingNews365.

“But I’ve also had to be patient, it’s not like I’m the only one here, the only one deciding that.

“I also had to take my patient pill with other things and I’ve had to be patient.”

Saints urges patience

The F1 ‘silly season’ was kicked into gear earlier this year when Hamilton announced his decision to join Ferrari.

With other moves being announced of late, including Nico Hulkenberg to Stake and Oliver Bearman to Haas, Sainz has questioned why the market has been in swing much earlier than usual this year.

“At the same time, I thank everyone that is having to hang in there while I take the decision,” he added.

“What I don’t fully understand is why the market is happening so early this year?

“Why everyone is so much in a rush? I remember it used to be in the summer break, September, July, it used to be when all of those situations started to happen.”
