In Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso, Alpine have two strong drivers to continue their assault up the grid for the 2021 season. In 2020, the team secured their first podium results since returning to the sport in 2016, with Daniel Ricciardo finishing third at the Eifel and Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, and Ocon securing his first podium with a second at the Sakhir Grand Prix. They would eventually have to settle for fifth in the constructors’ championship, but their haul of 181 points represented a 90-point improvement from 2019.

Looking to promote the French manufacturer’s sports car brand, Renault have rebranded as the Alpine F1 team for 2021 and will be led by Laurent Rossi who replaces team principal and managing director of Renault Sport F1, Cyril Abiteboul. With McLaren switching to Mercedes engines, Renault will be the only power unit manufacturer without a customer beyond their works operation in 2021.
