Oscar Piastri

Piastri F1 title hopes handed shot in arm

Oscar Piastri may not be in with a realistic shout of the F1 drivers' championship this season, but F1 fans think the two-time grand prix winner could be next in line.

Oscar Piastri may only be 18 months or so in to his F1 career, but the young Australian is already leaving his mark.

With two grand prix victories under his belt, the 23-year-old is increasingly proving a worthy match for his more experienced team-mate, Lando Norris, who is in the midst of a first F1 drivers' title fight with three-time champion Max Verstappen.

F1 is down to just three champions on the grid, with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso being the others, and given the battle ensuing, attention is starting to be paid to who the next maiden title winner might be.

However, it is the other McLaren driver whose championship aspirations have been handed the biggest boost by F1 fans.

In a recent poll conducted by RacingNews365, just shy of 60% indicated they believe the next 'new' F1 drivers' champion will be Piastri, whilst only around half that number feel it will fall to Norris.

Unsurprisingly, given McLaren's recent form, the two team-mates accounted for over 90% of the total vote.
