Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has urged Sergio Perez to come to his own conclusions regarding his F1 future.

Perez has struggled for form throughout the campaign which has led to speculation over his spot within the Red Bull camp.

The Mexican driver signed a two-year extension earlier this year prior to his performance downturn.

“Checo has had a very tough year, and obviously the points tables are what they are,” Horner told media including RacingNews365.

“We’re very much focused on really supporting him to the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi.

“It’s not an enjoyable situation for Checo being in this position, with speculation every week.

“He’s old enough and wise enough to know what the situation is. Let’s see where we are after Abu Dhabi.”

When asked if it would be best for Perez to walk away from the Red Bull team on his own accord, Horner asserted it would not force his hand.

“I’m going to let Checo come to his own conclusions,” he said. “Nobody is forcing him one way or another. It’s not a nice situation for him to be in.”

Perez retired from the Qatar race after stating he lost drive - however, Horner has painted a different picture of the situation.

“We’re just investigating the exact failure, but it looks like he spun the car and as he dropped the clutch, the clutch had too much temperature go through it.”
