Perez publicly apologises to F1 stewards after "joke" outburst

Sergio Perez has publicly apologised to Formula 1 stewards after receiving a formal warning over comments made after a penalty cost him an Abu Dhabi Grand Prix podium.

Late in the race at Yas Marina, Perez made a move on McLaren's Lando Norris at Turn 6, but overcooked it and clattered into the Briton, but both were able to continue.

The stewards handed him a five-second time penalty which dropped him from second on the road at the flag to fourth as Charles Leclerc waved him through in a last-ditch attempt to secure second in the Constructors;' for Ferrari.

On his cool down lap, Perez, claimed that "The stewards are a joke, man. I cannot believe it. They have been very bad this year, but this is a joke. That was really a joke."

He was summoned to the stewards, who noted they were conflicted in the matter owing to the fact the case concerned them, but as it was the final race of the season, the matter needed to be dealt with.

Perez privately apologised to the four-person panel, and later took to Instagram to issue a public apology.
