Oscar Piastri has reposted a quote said by former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, claiming McLaren prefers Lando Norris to him.
The original post was from gpfansglobal on Instagram on November 4th 2025, centred around comments the British business magnate made to Sport.De.
"McLaren prefers the English driver Norris. He has more star quality and marketing appeal for them, has more camera presence and publicity," Ecclestone said.
"That's probably why he's better for McLaren."
The Australian driver did not reshare the post until the early hours of Friday morning — November 21st — in Las Vegas, and it is currently unclear if it was indeed intentional or even if someone has gained access to Piastri's Instagram account.
The nine-time grand prix winner has since deleted his repost of the original, but it will do little to alleviate recent accusations of favouritism within the Woking-based squad.
On numerous occasions over the past few rounds, namely at Monza, McLaren has been criticised for perceived bias in Norris' favour.
These claims are unfounded and have been denied by the team, but have coincided with Piastri's strange and sudden loss of form over the past six rounds.
Since winning the Dutch Grand Prix, the 24-year-old has been outscored by his team-mate to the tune of 58 points, which has seen his once-healthy 34-point advantage turned into a 24-point deficit as the pair vie for their first F1 drivers' championship.
