Lando Norris believes signing his new McLaren contract will take him out of the "crazy" next couple of years in Formula 1.

Norris penned a new deal with the Woking squad to tie himself to the team he made his debut with in 2019, and fend off interest from potential suitors such as Mercedes or Red Bull.

Whilst the driver market for 2024 was stagnant with no changes on the grid, come 2025, most contracts are up for renewal, with Norris keen to extract himself from the situation.

The Briton also pointed out how signing the new deal was also security for the impending rule changes in 2026.

"I'm in a good position, and [my future] is not something that I really want to worry about over the next few years," Norris told media including RacingNews365.

"Obviously, there have always been discussions going on around our future, and I think it is a very, very good time [to settle my future], especially when it is coming to a couple of years where things start to get a bit more crazy with everyone else's contract and people potentially moving teams and things like that.

"Also going into 2026 with the new regulations, it is not something I or the team want to be thinking of or spending any time on in such an important couple of years.

"Simply because I can, I am comfortable and happy with where I am, and the team are happy with me, so it was just an easy decision."

The actual length of Norris's new contract was not revealed by the team, with CEO Zak Brown detailing the reasons why - when previous dates have been.

"Because it is our business," he said.

"Sometimes you discuss it, sometimes you don't and actually last time when we discussed it, it was a bit more unusual.

"I think typically, just as Ferrari has announced with Charles [Leclerc], you are not keen to give too many details, so we see no reason to advertise any details of anybody's contract."
