Lando Norris has stated “uncertainty” during the Hungarian Grand Prix amplified the significance of the team order drama that unfolded.

Norris was instructed by his team to hand the lead back to team-mate Oscar Piastri after moving to the head of the field by pitting before the Australian.

A lengthy debate over team radio followed with Norris opting to let Piastri by with a handful of laps to go.

Piastri went on to secure his maiden F1 victory as Norris later conceded he could have handled the situation differently.

The 24-year-old signalled improved communication to eliminate uncertainty could have resulted in a different outcome.

“I think uncertainty from [both] sides is what created a much bigger thing than what it was,” Norris told media including RacingNews365.

“But we still have a lot of trust and faith in one another. I think that's basically how our whole foundation and team is built upon. That's the most important thing.

“Things from both what I wanted and what I asked for, and what I questioned from the team, could have been better.

“Also the team and having an understanding of what I wanted to do, making things slightly more clear, because I don't think I can blame the team on the side, but slightly more clear from me would help.”

McLaren is searching for its first F1 title since 2008 this year as it currently sits 42 points down on Red Bull in the constructors' championship.
