After Kyle Larson's claim he is "better" than Max Verstappen, Dutch racing driver Tim Coronel has moved to refute the 2021 NASCAR champion's assertion.

Speaking on FloRacing, Larson said: "I know in my mind I am better than him [Verstappen] as an all-around driver."

To which, in an interview with RacingNews365, Coronel responded, coming to the defence of the three-time F1 drivers' champion.

"If you say that, then I don't think you know what's going on in the world besides that bubble he's in in America," the 52-year-old contended.

The Dakar Rally driver went a step further, musing over the prospect of Larson and Verstappen going head-to-head, arguing the American should challenge the Dutchman.

"If you think you're better than Max Verstappen, I'd actually really like to have a match between them, because you're going to lose. Max in those GT cars also goes bellowing, in the sim, with everything," he said, before going on to address Larson directly.

"Kyle, sorry, but then I think you are wrong in life. Then you haven't understood what driving a car is at all."

In Coronel's mind, it would be no contest between the two champions, adding: "Two practice sessions for Max and then Kyle is going to cry in a corner somewhere."
