McLaren 'to ask questions' after late-race Ricciardo move

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has called into question the legitimacy and sporting legality of RB's decision for Daniel Ricciardo to steal fastest lap from Lando Norris in the Singapore Grand Prix.

It was a move that aided the championship fights that Red Bull and Max Verstappen are currently embroiled in with the Woking team and its British driver.

And as RB is the sister team of the reigning champions, Brown was quick to highlight the potential impropriety, given Ricciardo was out of the points and therefore stood to gain nothing.

“That’s a nice A/B team sporting thing that I didn’t think was allowed…” the American told SiriusXM.

“But hey, that’s not the first time we’ve seen it, probably won’t be the last.

'It does illustrate the issue'

Brown has been an outspoken critic in the past of how Red Bull operates, including the advantages it enjoys from having two teams on the F1 grid.

The 52-year-old confirmed he would seek answers over the incident, which could prove critical in both the drivers' and constructors' title fights.

Norris trails Verstappen by 52 points and McLaren leads Red Bull by 41 points with six rounds still to run, meaning - albeit unlikely - a single point could be the difference.

“I’ll certainly ask some questions," Brown added. "It’s something I’ve spoken about in the past and I think it illustrates that it does happen, because I think you wouldn’t have made that pit stop to go for that.

"It’s not going to get anyone a point, so I think it does illustrate the issue around that topic.”
