Leclerc addresses Ferrari resurgence timeline

Charles Leclerc has downplayed Ferrari's chances of springing out of the gates when the summer shutdown ends later this month.

F1 factories are currently in a period of hibernation with a mandatory two-week closure enforced across the grid.

Prior to the summer break, the Italian squad was competing off the front-running pace having commenced the season in strong fashion behind leaders Red Bull.

McLaren and Mercedes have since overtaken Ferrari in the pecking order - and Leclerc doesn't think the situation will be any different when the season resumes.

“I don’t think the shutdown will help us because everything is closed,” Leclerc told media including RacingNews365. 

“It will all be about holidays and recharging the batteries.”

Ferrari currently sit third in the constructors' championship having recently been overtaken by McLaren.

Leclerc highlighted fresh upgrades will offer Ferrari a boost as it looks to reposition itself in the front-running fight.

“However, as soon as possible we’ll try to work on the new parts that again I cannot tell you when it will be coming and it’s not even sure when it will be coming,” Leclerc added.

“We are working flat out to try and bring it as early as possible and then depending on when it comes it will tell us which races will start to see the lights at the end of this tunnel.”
