Jos Verstappen has sharply criticised the FIA for its handling of the controversial Max Verstappen/Oscar Piastri incident in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen was handed a five-second time penalty for cutting Turn 1 and gaining an advantage after a Lap 1 clash with Piastri, with the Red Bull driver cutting short his post-race interview as the debate around racing guidelines was re-opened.

Adding his thoughts to the situation, Verstappen Senior blasted the FIA.

"You can look at it in different ways, how Max reacted, it is better not to say anything, especially with that idiotic rule from the FIA," Verstappen told Racexpress.

"They don't listen anyway, and you can't win from them; it is better not to say anything."

As for the title fight against championship leader Piastri, Verstappen Senior felt Red Bull was making improvements to allow Verstappen Junior to fight.

"I don't think there was very much difference between Oscar Piastri and Max," he added.

"That's a positive for Red Bull, though. I think they are on the right track. The car is not the easiest, so let's just see what happens in the next races. It also depends on whether there will be any updates.

"So, of course, it is exciting, you don't know in advance what is going to happen, that in itself is good for Formula 1."
