Jenson Button delivered Charles Leclerc a piece of brutal criticism following the British Grand Prix, in that his rivals should always "do the opposite" to him in mixed conditions.

The Monegasque endured a shocking race at Silverstone after a strategic nightmare, which saw the Ferrari driver pit for slick tyres at the end of the formation lap.

With the circuit having still been too wet, it was a disastrous decision by Leclerc, who went off the circuit on several occasions whilst searching for grip.

Leclerc went off at Maggots/Becketts and at Stowe, in what was the latest mixed weather race where the 27-year-old has struggled.

He had to settle for 14th and a staggering 84 seconds adrift of race winner Lando Norris, whilst he also finished 45 seconds behind Lewis Hamilton in fourth.

Button, the 2009 F1 world champion, was left puzzled by Leclerc's continued difficulty in mixed weather and praised Hamilton for his overtake on George Russell and Esteban Ocon.

"I mean, it seems like if you've got a tricky race like this, you do the opposite of what Charles Leclerc does," Button told Sky F1

"It's never been a strong point of him or his engineer, or whoever it is, but they always seem to come off worse in these tricky conditions. But no, I still think it was a great job by Lewis.

"It was great seeing him fight with George for so many laps. And that epic move, the restart into Turn 3 when he overtook two cars, mega around the outside.

"Such a beautiful move. And then the real good fight with George and passing Pierre again."
