Christian Horner has confirmed that Red Bull's car next season will be an "evolution" of the RB20.

The Milton Keynes-based outfit do not feel that starting from scratch with the RB21 – the expected name of Red Bull's 2025 car – makes sense.

With every team expected to focus early next year on the new power unit regulations set to be introduced in 2026, minimal time is likely going to be spent on next season's cars.

Red Bull had already carried components over from last year's record-breaking RB19, which won all but one race – the Singapore Grand Prix.

Due to most teams using next season to prepare for 2026, Red Bull faces a challenging season should it not undergo a successful winter.

The cost cap and Red Bull becoming a power unit supplier for the new regulations are just two reasons why developing an entirely new car for next season is not the right path.

As addressed by the Red Bull team principal, making next season's car an evolution is the logical choice.

“In this business, you're always juggling and you've got to put one foot in front of the other," Horner said, as per motorsport.com.

“You can't project too far into the future. Long term in F1 is about two and a half months and, basically, what we learn this year is relevant to next year.

“So next year's car will be an evolution of this year's car. I mean, there's many components of last year's car that have been carried over into this year, because with the way the cost cap works, unless there's significant performance upgrade, it doesn't make sense [to change].”
