Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has highlighted a "risk" Max Verstappen took on his way to Las Vegas Grand Prix victory, which "you can't get out" of the driver.

Verstappen started in second but took the lead into the first corner, following a mistake from Lando Norris which saw him run off the circuit.

The Dutchman never looked back after moving to the front and went on to claim victory by 21 seconds, although the gap was made significantly larger due to Lando Norris slowing to save fuel.

Norris had finished in second, although both McLarens being disqualified post-race promoted George Russell into P2. As a result, Verstappen is now just 24 points adrift of Norris in the drivers' title fight, with two rounds remaining.

"An incredible race," Marko told Servus TV. "Took the first corner again supremely. The remarkable thing was that McLaren told Lando to attack, to try to catch him.

"We passed that on to him. And then he went for it: one fastest lap after another."

Despite being in a comfortable lead, there was no moment of relaxation for Verstappen, who pushed to set the fastest lap on the final lap.

It is something the 28-year-old has done on several occasions, something Marko is wary carries significant risk.

"It was convincing and of course on the last lap he had to set the fastest lap again, with a big margin," added Marko. "You just can't get that out of him, but there is a certain risk in it."

Asked what the key to success was for Red Bull in Las Vegas, Marko explained: "We controlled it exactly and we controlled our tyre wear better.

"We also stayed out the longest and Max always had reserves left. So in that respect, the set-up we did on good luck was definitely the right one."
