Lewis Hamilton has responded to a rumour that he is seeking to purchase a MotoGP outfit going forward.

It was recently reported that the seven-time Formula 1 world champion is interested in purchasing the Gresini MotoGP outfit.

Gresini currently runs the Marquez brothers Marc and Alex, however, the former, who is one of the most successful riders in MotoGP history, will leave the team for Ducati.

A potential team buyout for Hamilton would not be the first time the 39-year-old has ventured into sports ownership, as he joined a group that took over the Denver Broncos of the NFL.

He also fielded a team in the Extreme E off-road racing series for a handful of years.

When asked if he was interested in purchasing the Gresini MotoGP team, Hamilton told media including RacingNews365: “I've always loved MotoGP.

“I'm interested in the potential growth of the sport, but I haven't looked that far into it just yet. But anything's possible. I'm definitely interested in, as I said before, about equity and already with the Broncos, it was already a first step in team ownership.

“And so, yeah, I think over the next five to 10 years, there'll be hopefully more. We'll see where.”

Earlier this year, MotoGP was bought out by Liberty Media, who is also the commercial rights holder of F1.
