Hamilton no longer needs to find mojo at Ferrari - Coulthard

Lewis Hamilton no longer needs to rediscover his mojo when he heads to Ferrari next year in the wake of his British Grand Prix triumph.

That is the verdict of 13-time grand prix winner David Coulthard who felt that after a winless streak of 56 grands stretching back 946 days to the 2021 race in Saudi Arabia in early December, Hamilton was back to his best at Silverstone.

The 39-year-old mastered the changeable conditions in his Mercedes to claim the 104th win of his F1 career, and prove to himself that he still has what it takes, ending a remarkable barren spell after so many years of his success.

It was also a fitting race to return to winning ways with a team he will leave at the end of the year before joining Ferrari next season.

"This has been the most difficult period for Lewis of his career," said Coulthard, speaking on Channel 4. "When he joined McLaren as a rookie up against Fernando Alonso, he finished the season with the same amount of points, matching a world champion.

"So he's only known success. He's only known brilliance. He's only known how to deliver pole positions and be a winning machine.

"The period of drought that he's gone through, and lacking performance to his team-mate, that I cannot compute. That's why it means so much to him, and that is what confirms that he's still got the hunger.

"That whole Ferrari journey is about trying to rediscover his mojo. Well, he's discovered it here."

Hamilton rewrote Hollywood script

The former McLaren and Red Bull driver believes Hamilton delivered a better script for the upcoming F1 movie than whatever will be viewed when it is released next June.

Hamilton is a co-producer of the film that stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. The latter recently hailed Hamilton's 'no BS' approach for removing potential plot lines he felt "wouldn't happen".

As for Hamilton delivering his own twist to this season, Coulthard added: "They had a little teaser for the Brad Pitt movie that's coming out that they've named F1 - they've spent a long time trying to figure that name out.

"But forget that Hollywood. This is Hollywood. This is what could have been the script for that movie, him doing it here."

The scenes at Silverstone on Sunday were compounded by his emotions over the radio, and again when he clambered out of his W15 and was greeted by his father Anthony.

"The emotion for me at the end, seeing Anthony hugging Lewis, and Lewis not wanting to let go, as a father that's something that really touches you," said Coulthard.
