2009 F1 champion Jenson Button has hit back at Ferrari chairman John Elkann's criticism of the Italian squad's drivers.
Ferrari endured a difficult São Paulo Grand Prix last weekend, walking away from the event with zero points after both cars failed to reach the chequered flag.
Elkann spoke to Italian media after the race and suggested Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc needed to “focus on driving and talk less”.
Following Elkann's message, Hamilton and Leclerc appeared to respond to the 49-year-old with statements of their own.
Button, who ended his racing career last weekend after the 8 Hours of Bahrain, has weighed in on the situation.
Commenting on Instagram, Button fired criticism at Elkann, stating: “Maybe John should lead by example.”
Ferrari has slipped to fourth place in the constructors' championship following its disappointing result in Brazil last weekend.
The Italian squad has not yet taken a grand prix win this year, the only team within the top four that has failed to do so.
