Marc Marquez is known for being a world champion on two wheels, but what about if he ever tried his hand at four wheels? Could we ever see him follow in the footsteps of John Surtees?

You might have seen the recent scenes of Marc Marquez and Max Verstappen in conversation at the recent Honda Thanks Day at Twin Ring Motegi.

If you cast your mind back to 2018, Marquez followed in the footsteps of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo and tested a Formula 1 car for the first time.

The 2012 RB8 was wrapped in the Toro Rosso livery, owing to Repsol Honda's MotoGP team engine ties, with the pair switching their fast two-wheeled machines for the pinnacle of four wheels at the Red Bull Ring.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, Ex-F1 race winner Mark Webber, and the late Niki Lauda were on site to keep track of his progress. Marko was seemingly impressed with what he saw, with Webber also commemorating him for his ability behind the wheel.

THE SKILLS YOU NEED AS A DRIVER ARE REALLY INCREDIBLE

John Surtees became the only man win history to win premier class world titles on two and four wheels in 1964, when he won the F1 Drivers' Championship in Mexico.

After testing an F1 car for the first time, would Marquez consider a full-time switch to four wheels? When speaking exclusively to RacingNews365 he speaks about the experience.

"No. Of course it was super cool to try an F1 car and it's true that I was quite fast, but I was well supervised that day," says Marquez.

"I have to thank Mark Webber and Red Bull for that, as well as Dr. Helmut Marko and also Niki Lauda were present at that test.

"It was really a super special day and yes, I did pretty well. I was fast, but it was a closed test on a circuit that I also know well, the Red Bull Ring. But it's very different than if you let me go on a street circuit like Monaco. The skills you need as a driver for that are really incredible."

If he had ever had four-wheel ambitions, the time has now passed according to the realistic Spaniard: "If you want to be successful in motorsport or motorsport, you really have to start at an early age."
