Sky Sports F1 lead commentator David Croft had to apologise live on air in the final moments of FP2 at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after co-commentator Karun Chandhok was blasphemous.
After Croft used broadcast images of a fan at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit holding up a sign that read: 'I flew 10,000km to see Carbono' - the nickname fans have given to the Williams pairing of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon - to segue to discussing how both drivers have had their appendixes removed, and how their two direct replacements for the subsequent races they missed, Ollie Bearman and Nyck de Vries, both scored points in those races, Chandhok playfully questioned the strained link.
"I need to call Anthony Davidson to find out if had a more tenuous link, because I can't remember it," the former F1 driver said.
"I'm just backing up their efforts. I applaud that fan," Croft replied, to which Chandhok exclaimed: "Why don't we just say that? 'I applaud that fan', rather than the world's most tenuous link. Jesus Christ!" He added: "Amazing. Crofty has officially lost it - needs to go to bed."
Within a minute, Croft acted on instruction from Sky mission control, saying: "And I know it's Easter, but watch your language, Karun Chandhok, who quietly said: "What do you mean?" in response.
"Your exclamation," Croft replied, "of my tenuous link there. Apologies, ladies and gentlemen, if anyone was offended by that."
A few seconds later, he awkwardly continued commentary, of the two Ferraris taking their post-session practice starts.
