Chadwick "pleasantly surprised" after Indy Lights test

The two-time W Series champion had her first run in IndyCar's junior series with Andretti Autosport at Sebring.

Jamie Chadwick says she was "pleasantly surprised" after her first run in an Indy Lights car with Andretti Autosport. The two-time W Series champion racked up 210 miles of learning in the car used by upcoming talent on the IndyCar roster, around the Sebring International Raceway. Speaking to media, including RacingNews365 , the Briton said the Dallara IL15 was a step up from what she has previously driven and spoke about the strength needed to drive it. "I'm pleasantly surprised by the physicality of it," she explained. "I think I've been scared off a little bit [because a] lot of people said it's a really big heavy car. "It is definitely is a step up in terms of anything I've driven before in terms of power and probably weight. "The conditions when we tested are in Florida were pretty high, it hit 30 degrees. So it's definitely a physical car. "We did a really good test programme, so in that sense I was really happy. "I felt like I could get comfortable with the car and drive it how I wanted to without too much limitation physically."

Oval test could be on the cards

While the Indy Lights calendar is largely made up of road and street courses, there are still a couple of ovals that the series visits - which were Iowa and Gateway in the 2022 season. Chadwick says an oval test could be the next step as she looks further at options to race in the championship. "I feel like it's something that all drivers think about when they go over to America," she explained. "In the Indy Lights calendar they don't do the superspeedways [or big ovals such as Indianapolis or Texas] so it is a little bit less intense. "So of course I want to have the opportunity to test [on an oval] to see how I fast I can go."
