The highly anticipated Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt is set to relocate filming to the United States and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The movie, which does not yet have a title, is being directed by Joseph Kosinski and has seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton involved as a producer.

It was shot at various Grand Prix events throughout last year's F1 campaign with a fictional 11th F1 team called APX GP created.

A mock garage was set up and a Dallara-built Formula 2 chassis, modified to resemble an F1 car, was used for racing footage.

However, the F1 season came to an end in November and is not set to resume until the start of March.

To fill the gap, RACER reports that the production will utilise the Daytona International Speedway as part of the IMSA’s Roar Before The 24 which runs from January 19-21 and carry over to the 24 Hours of Daytona that runs the following week.

One major change that is expected between the F1 and IMSA operations is that the upcoming shots are set to take place during official sessions when other cars are on the track.

During F1 race weekends that hosted the movie, all on-track running took place outside of official sessions - apart from the British Grand Prix, where the two APX GP cars lined-up at the back of the grid for the formation lap.

RACER also reports that the car will be GTD entry and part of the story arc that sees Pitt's character, an older driver, come out of retirement to compete in F1.

It's unclear if the car will be a one-off addition to the grid or if an agreement has been struck with an existing GTD team to carry the livery and character name for the weekend.
