Alpine has confirmed that Jack Doohan has suffered no ill effects after his high-speed crash during second practice at the Japanese Grand Prix.

The French team told RacingNews365 that the Australian went to the medical centre for precautionary checks. Crucially, Doohan has not sustained a concussion.

Heading into the first corner of the Suzuka circuit at a speed reported to be 185mph, Doohan's Alpine spun, sliding off the track, across the gravel, and impacting heavily with a barrier to the left-hand side of the car.

That occurred at the start of his second push lap and less than 10 minutes into the session. The 22-year-old had sat out FP1 for reserve driver and home hero Ryo Hirakawa.

The team is still assessing the data following the session, as well as the damage.

It is believed Alpine has a spare chassis - or tub - in Japan but it nonetheless stated it will be working hard to get Doohan's car ready for FP3 on Saturday morning.
