Alonso summoned to stewards after dramatic Russell crash

Fernando Alonso has been summoned to the stewards in relation to George Russell's dramatic crash at the end of the Australian Grand Prix.

The Aston Martin driver was occupying sixth on the road in the closing laps at Albert Park with Russell, who had pitted later than Alonso, attacking from behind.

But entering the fast chicane at Turns six, seven and eight, Mercedes' Russell rapidly closed into the back of Alonso's AMR24, losing control in the turbulent air and running into the barrier.

The Briton's car rode over its tyres, which remained connected to the chassis by the safety wheel tethers, and almost flipped over, though Russell was unhurt.

Russell was the second Mercedes to retire from the race after teammate Lewis Hamilton suffered a power unit issue.
