Oscar Piastri has the chance to equal one all-time McLaren F1 record at this weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix, first achieved by Ayrton Senna.

Piastri heads to Baku as the defending race winner and championship leader, enjoying a 31-point lead over team-mate Lando Norris with eight rounds remaining.

From the first 16 races, the Australian has seven wins, and victory in Baku could equal Senna's all-time record of eight wins in a season for McLaren, achieved in his first title-winning year of 1988.

That record has since been matched by Mika Hakkinen in 1998, the year he won his first championship, although both did so in a 16-race season, with Piastri taking at least 17 races if he wins in Baku.

He would become just the second driver to win multiple Azerbaijan GPs if he does win, following on from Sergio Perez in 2021 and 2023.
