Career Mick Schumacher

Son of seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, Mick Schumacher was destined to be a racer, and began karting in 2008 under the pseudonym Mick Betsch to avoid attention. Despite not using his real surname for the entirety of his karting career, his successes were picked up on by some in the press.

Schumacher raced for the first time using his famous surname when he progressed into the ADAC Formula 4 Championship in 2015, where he would finish 10th. The following year, a switch from Van Amersfoort Racing to Prema Powerteam brought an upturn in form, as he finished second in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship and Italian Formula 4 Championship. 
 

Titles would soon follow when Mick won both the Formula 3 European Championship in 2018 and the Formula 2 Championship in 2020 at the second time of asking.

Mick Schumacher in F1

A member of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2019, Schumacher made his F1 debut in 2021 with the Haas team, who have close ties to the Maranello outfit. The German signed a multi-year deal and was joined in his first season by Nikita Mazepin, another rookie and F2 graduate.

Haas endured a difficult campaign in 2021, with Schumacher and Mazepin regularly bringing up the rear of the pack. However, Schumacher still managed to impress many with some of his performances, with a standout moment coming at the Hungarian Grand Prix. A chaotic start to the race shook up the running order, and Schumacher not only briefly ran in the points but also enjoyed a battle with Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Schumacher remained with Haas for the 2022 season, partnered by new teammate Kevin Magnussen. The German scored his first points in F1 at the British Grand Prix, followed by a career-best P6 at the Austrian Grand Prix.

However, Haas opted to replace Schumacher with Nico Hulkenberg for 2023, leaving the former without a seat on the grid. Mercedes offered Mick Schumacher a role as a third driver for their top team, a position he has held since 2023. However, it was announced in 2024 that Schumacher would be leaving Mercedes as a reserve driver to focus on full-time racing.
