Max Verstappen has warned McLaren "all is possible" following the disastrous error not to pit under the Qatar safety car which has blown the title race wide open.
Verstappen won in Qatar after both McLarens elected not to pit under a lap 7 safety car, with tyres limited to 25 laps maximum.
It meant Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris would have to pass Verstappen on-track to claim victory, but Piastri did not get within 10s of Verstappen with Norris only fourth after passing Kimi Antonelli on the penultimate lap.
It means heading to Abu Dhabi, the title standings are thus.
- Norris - 408
- Verstappen - 396
- Piastri - 392
Reflecting on his 70th career grand prix victory, Verstappen made clear it was all to play for in Abu Dhabi.
"It was an incredible race for us, we made the right call to box under the safety car and that was smart," Verstappen explained.
"We will stay in the fight until the end, and I was like 'that is an interesting move' [not to pit under the safety car], I knew that then we had a bit of a gap, but you still need to keep the tyres alive.
"It was 25 laps, the wear is very high around here, but luckily it all worked out. All is possible, and we'll see, but I don't really worry too much about it."
