Magnussen summoned for alleged unsportsmanlike behaviour

Kevin Magnussen has been called before the stewards for his conduct during the Miami Grand Prix sprint.

In trying to play the team game, the 31-year-old accrued multiple time penalties to keep Lewis Hamilton behind him in trying to protect Haas team-mate Nico Hulkenberg ahead.

Those tactics, similar to the ones seen at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, helped the German driver get two points, finishing seventh in the sprint.

Magnussen amassed 35 second worth of punishment before he was finally passed by Hamilton and others in the closing stages, by which point it was too late for the pack to catch Hulkenberg ahead.

The Dane will appear before the stewards at 14:15 local time for: "Alleged breach of Article 12.2.1.l of the International Sporting Code – Alleged unsportsmanlike behaviour."

Magnussen said after the race that he did not like employing such tactics, but that it was good for the team, whilst Hamilton appreciated his honesty.
